Good price and great option to have an upgrade if you have Ultegra already .
Everything came as expected, wired up off bike to update and bench test , all good to go and am now installing on S3
The product is really great and works perfectly, but it takes some setting up and if you do this in the wrong order you can kill your Di2.
You MUST update the Di2 on your bike via a PC and eTube app before fitting this Bluetooth module. If you fit without updating, the bike tries to update via Bluetooth, crashes, and kills the whole system. While it is possible to reset by unplugging all elements of the system, the unit still won’t work until you update the battery firmware Di2 - Would be nice if Shimano fixed this, but until then beware!
Great Customer service. They allowed me to specify exactly which chainset and cassette combination I wanted as well as choose between regular and direct mount brakes, and a choice of two bottom bracket styles. I asked them to send out what they had while waiting for the brakes, which weren't in stock, which enabled my local bike shop could start the fit. This they did and furthermore they sent the brake out when it arrived as next day delivery for me without charge. Only one fly in the ointment (which was just a lack of understanding on my part) is that neither of the Shimano bottom bracket choices offered was any good for my Trek emonda SLR - as it uses its own specific type. Nonetheless, the groupset offered great value for money, especially with the flexibility to choose exactly what you want.
A must have if you want to tweak your shift modes using the e-tube app, or see gear information on your bike computer
Works great with the Garmin edge 1030
Ordered Shimano EW-WU111 E-tube Di2 wireless unit inline, plus Di2 wire and plug tools items from Vanillabikes, who kept me informed via email at every stage from order to despatch.
Delivery was quick too, well done Vanillabikes.
Shimano EW-WU111 E-tube Di2 wireless unit inline
Really easy to fit inline, this one is much smaller than the previous generation. Just ensure you have a cable and the Shimano tool for making/breaking the connections with the junction box.
At £14,000 a kilogram this little device is a great deal more expensive than gold! So on any value for money measure it fails to impress.
Putting aside the silly price, the device works as advertised and helps provide some additional functionally. The main benefits are i) data display on a compatible head unit (I have a Garmin 520) and ii) supports communication with the smartphone app.
On the first benefit, the actual data available is quite limited and the only item of real use is the battery indicator. You can already get a rough indication from the junction A box so this is a relatively small benefit. On the second benefit, the smart phone app does not provide any additional functionality over the PC app. The only advantage is that this provides essentially the same set-up options wirelessly. Having played with the set-up my conclusion is that once you've got this dialed in it is unlikely that you would need to change it on the fly, so the PC app is enough and the wireless feature is a weak benefit.
On the plus side, it is trick and I do like to be able to check the battery level on my head unit.
In conclusion, you can definitely live without this and its addition to the Di2 experience is marginal, but if you've got £70 burning a hole in your pocket and love to have all the latest tech, fill your boots.
p.s. I fitted this so it is inside my frame and it works fine. This is a neater solution that attaching it to the brake cable housing.
Great service and delivered swiftly. Product is excellent and much better than the previous Ant+ version I had. Can now upgrade via an App rather than S/W on PC
Small unit easy to install and program for displaying gear ratios and di2 battery status.
Ordered, very fast delivery, item as described. Thanks.
After upgrading my Ultegra 6800 groupset that came with my bike to Di2 last autumn, I've added this little widget to the system to give me a view of what gears I'm in on my bike computer (Wahoo Elemnt), battery level of the Di2 battery and also the ability to set the system up via bluetooth using my phone or tablet. All the above functionality works well, haven't tried the new syncro shifting setup just yet but that can again be configured via the app exactly how you want it. One word of note, I found that after first pairing the phone app with the widget via bluetooth and it started installing a new firmware it lost the bluetooth connection and I couldn't for the life of me get it back connected again. In the end, more out of luck than judgement, I removed the widget from my bike, ensured the Di2 system was still working without it and then added it back to my bike and it paired again. The Di2 equivalent of rebooting it I guess. Note that you'll need an additional e-wire cable to add this to your bike. At the moment I've just installed it up near my handlebars between the Junction A box and the Junction B box but next I plan to move it to inside my seat post between the battery and Junction Box B. Hopefully there'll be no issue with the Ant+ connectivity from there to my bike computer.
