Gloves. Aurelia Bold Black Nitrile Gloves.
Preface … This is not going to be an enthralling blog. It’s about gloves. That being said. They’re really quite good.
The team at Vanilla Bikes sent me these through quite a while ago and I’ve been sat on this blog for too long. It has however given me the chance to really test and use these gloves a lot. As well as standard bike cleaning and regular maintenance of oiling and cleaning the chain and replacing tyres & tubes, I’ve been able to use them for bigger jobs such as a Shimano Hollowtech II bottom bracket replacement on my winter bike, and I also used them for some work on my hardtail MTB, removing the front mech to complete my conversion to a single chain ring up front.
The main advantages of the gloves are that they just feel a lot thicker than they actually are. You lose no feel by wearing them. They’re pretty robust too, I’ve previously used some cheap latex gloves off Amazon for my maintenance and would easily go through 3 or 4 pairs for a bike clean or job. The issue being a tear in the finger, or rip letting in the water or oil. But the Aurelia ones this isn’t the case. They hold up really well.
So to recap, they offer good grip, and they’re really robust. I suppose the only slight downside, and I mean it isn’t really one, I’m just trying to find something that could be seen as negative, is that they’re black. So you can’t see the mess/oil on your hands. This doesn’t bother me as I would simply take them off before touching anything else, but if they were white, or lighter, you could see the grime on them.
There isn’t a lot more to say, other than I personally recommend them. At £6.99 it isn’t bad for 50 sets of gloves. That’s a years supply if you only clean your bikes once a week …
